April is National Poetry Month and there is no better way to celebrate the diversity of contemporary poetry than to write it. Area teens ages 12 to 18 are invited to a series of poetry writing workshops devoted to celebrating this form of expression. In this four week course, teens will participate in hour and a half workshops that will introduce them to the exciting world of contemporary American poetry. Reading a wide variety of contemporary poets, they will engage in writing exercises that help students generate original poems and focus on key elements of craft, including image, voice, line, sound and delivery. The course will culminate in a fifth and final meeting wherein students will have the opportunity to invite family and friends to a Poetry Slam, at which time they will literally “drop the mic,” sharing some of the poetry they have generated during those weeks together. Program dates: Thur Apr 6, 13, 20, 27 at 6pm. Advanced registration in person at the library or by phone is required. Greenwood Lake patrons receive priority.
