From Colonial Times to Present with Dr. Myra Armstead – In observance of Black History Month please join us for a special lecture. This lecture will examine black identity in the Hudson Valley from the colonial period to the present. Discover how over nearly a four-hundred-year period the identity of blacks in the region evolved from captive to slave, from slave to free, from northern-born to southern-influenced, from pre-industrial to post-industrial, from multi-ethnic to multi-national, and the resilience and strength shone all the way. This lecture will also discuss how black identity has been influenced over time by class, gender, family, religion, and culture.
