Pacem in Terris
The first concert in this season’s series at Pacem in Terris takes place on Sunday, June 23 at 5 pm, and features instrumental music from the 18th and 20th centuries performed by Yuri Namkung, violin, Alice Robbins, viola da gamba, and Gregory Hayes, harpsichord. The program will feature both solo and chamber works, including sonatas by Handel for violin and by Bach for viola da gamba, along with trios by the German composer Philipp Heinrich Erlebach and Frenchman Jacques Morel. Of special interest will be recent works written for these same instruments, more commonly heard in music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Hsueh-Yung Shen’s Ensuite was inspired by the music of Bach and baroque dance forms. Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti’s solo Continuum (1968) offers the illusion of a continuously evolving sound “cloud” generated by note patterns repeated at high velocity.
Tickets on sale at 4 pm on site, rain or shine. $20. suggested donation. No Reservations Possible.
