Help the Friends celebrate the 18th anniversary of the establishment of Sterling Forest State Park! A full day of events are from 9:30am-4:30pm. Friends of Sterling Forest Information Booth 9:30am-4pm. Lecture and PowerPoint presentation: History of Sterling Iron Works 10am-12pm presented by Doc Bayne, historian and retired park educator, with a coffee-break mid-point. Sterling Fire Tower Hike 10am-1pm with the Friends of Sterling Forest, a moderately-paced 4.0 mile hike to the fire tower. Enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. 12-1pm Hike South Point, an easy 0.4 mile hike with members of the Friends of Sterling Forest to a rock ledge featuring views of Sterling Lake. Sterling Lake Loop Hike 1-4pm, a moderately-paced 4.0 mile hike around lovely Sterling Lake with Friends of Sterling Forest. Lecture: The Chain That Saved the Colonies 1-2:30pm presented by Doc Bayne. Lakeville Iron Works Trail Hike 3-4:30pm. Doc Bayne will follow-up today’s presentations with a 0.8 mile easy hike. Registration is required for all programs.
