George Washington’s Birthday Celebration
Join in 3 days of fun festivities honoring of General George Washington. Each day starts with singing “Happy Birthday” and cutting into the birthday cake. Music, military demonstrations, topical talks, and a take home craft activity follow. The General will greet visitors in his headquarters every day. Martha will be there too on Sunday and Monday. Hear Balladeer Thad McGregor and witness the General reviewing the troops. Admission is free, donations appreciated. 12-4pm. Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, Newburgh.

Midweek Hike: Iron Mines
This is a special opportunity to explore mines located in Sterling Forest State Park with local historian and iron mining expert Doc Bayne on a moderate 3-mile hike along a mountainous trail. Wear hiking boots/ sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack. Meet at Pine Meadow Trailhead Parking Lot on Long Meadow Road across from the Tuxedo Mulch Pile. Sterling Mines are “off limits” to the public unless on an authorized guided hike. Snowy or icy weather will cancel event. Please call the Park to register. 11am-2pm. Essentials of Beekeeping
Learn about getting started with bee keeping, equipment and tools required, sources of bees for your startup, and answer questions about raising bees. Salamander Migration Nature Program
As winter fades, these seldom-seen creatures emerge from hibernation to return to their vernal pools. Meet some of these impressive adventurers and learn how you can volunteer as a citizen scientist with the Department of Environmental Conservation to help salamanders cross the roads. Suggested for adults and families with children over age 5. Admission price includes admission to the Wildlife Education Center. 10am-12pm.

Hike: Beavers on Ice
Join Doc Bayne, educator and environmentalist, for an approximately 3-mile hike to the site of a beaver lodge while Doc explains what he’s learned about the beavers in Sterling Forest. If conditions are safe, walk on the ice out to the lodge for an “up-closel” view of the beavers’ sanctuary. 1-4pm. Sterling Forest State Park Visitor’s Center, Tuxedo Park.
